NON-METRO AREA AGENCY ON AGING

The Non-Metro Area Agency on Aging provides funding to Senior Programs in every New Mexico County except Bernalillo (which is served by the Albuquerque AAA ). Persons 60 years of age or their spouse regardless of age qualify for these services without any income requirement. The services provided can include meals at senior centers, home delivered meals, transportation and homemaker services. CHAS Funding Available May 1st-June 4th !

Here are the basics of the CHAS program:

  • Assists older individuals age 55 or over;
  • Must reside in the Non-Metro AAA service area;
  • Must be low income (125% of Federal Poverty Guidelines or less). Note: 2009 amounts are still in effect.
  • Must lack the financial means or insurances;
  • Below is the type of and maximum $ assistance available:
    • Prescription Medication Assistance ($200)
    • Eye Care Assistance ($200)
    • Dental Care Assistance ($200)
    • Hearing Aid Assistance ($200)
    • Medical Office Visit Assistance ($200)
    • Nutritional Provision Assistance – only one application per household ($100 for single; $150 for 2 or more)
    • Utility Payment Assistance – only one application per household ($200)
    • Durable Medical Equipment ($200)

To determine eligibility, we need:

  1. A complete CHAS application per applicant (click on link);

Note: only one household member can apply for Nutritional Provisions since it benefits the whole household.

  1. Proof of age such as driver’s license or other official document (see application);
  2. Copy of 2009 NM State Income Tax Return for each household member (if filing separate);
  3. A written quote or copy of actual bill (not needed for Nutritional Provisions).

  • Funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Only complete applications with all necessary documents will be processed.
