Census 2010

The 2010 Census will help communities receive more than $400 billion in federal funds each year for things like:

  • Senior Centers
  • Job training centers
  • Schools
  • Hospitals
  • Bridges, tunnels and other-public works projects
  • Emergency services

Your information is used to produce statistics. Your answers cannot be used against you by any government agency or court.

All Census Bureau employees take the oath of nondisclosure and are sworn for life to protect the confidentiality of the data.

If you don't send back your form, you may receive a visit from a census taker. If a census taker visits you, here's what you should do:

  • First ask to see their ID. All census workers carry official government badges marked with just their name; they may also have a "U.S. Census Bureau" bag
  • Note that the census taker will never ask to enter your home
  • If you're still not certain about their identity, please call the Regional Census Center in Denver at 720-475-3640 to confirm they are employed by the Census Bureau. the national number is 800-923-8282
  • If the form is not filled out and returned, the census taker then visits all of those addresses and records the answers to the questions on the form
  • If no one answers at a particular residence, a census taker will visit that home up to three times, each time leaving a door hanger featuring a phone number; residents can call the number on the hanger to schedule the visit
  • Do NOT give any information over the phone to anyone other than your name and address. The census taker will ask the census questions when your home is visited in person if your form was not returned.
